my 1998 mercedes cl500 brake pedal sometimes goes to the floor.

There could be many reasons as to why your brake pedal goes to the floor. Like burgca says, it could be old brake fluid, or a loss of brake fluid. Other items to look at include a bad brake booster, bad master cylinder, or a cracked brake line.
