Stalling issue - 1996 S500 Coupe only works during the summer?!
(crosspost with benzworld)
My 96 S500 Coupe ran great all summer in the heat. Now that it's cooled down in New England it's old issue emerges.
When it's under 65 degrees or so, it might not start up or it will stall when being driven, then it won't start no matter how much it is cranked. If I let it sit 20 minutes it might start up but then will stall again. When it's very cold out, it won't start at all.
I previously thought I had solved it but it really was the change in temperature.
After towing to my mechanic Monday (it was ~65 degrees out) he said the fuel rail had no pressure … but today it's warm and it started right up.
No codes or Check Engine light!
Here's what I've already replaced:
1. breather hoses
2. crankshaft position sensor
3. throttle body air temp sensor
4. throttle body
5. mass airflow sensor
6. fuel filter
7. fuel pump
8. fuel pressure regulator
What do you think? I'd love to be able to drive this year round, it's a great car!
