96 s500 no 1st or 5th gear

1996 s500 coupe
96 s500 no 1st or 5th gear
After my wife ran to the coffee shop in my car she advised she had spilled coffee all over the shifter. Its a good thing she's cute .
it ran fine before . I have pulled the trans computer an replaced with a used exact number replacement as the original was soaked with trans fluid .
replaced the connector at transmission it was leaking badly .
I took apart the shifter cleaned it out no apparent issues nor much junk or anything out of the ordinary .
It will not start in 1st . in fact struggles to get going like it in 2nd gear from the start ,
It will not manually down shift in any gear .
It will shift up unitl 4th .
are these signs of being in limp mode ? if so our there any for code readers that can remove the error as I have noticed a lot do not work in a 1996.
The car has 150,000 miles .
Any help is greatly appreciated .
