Which to Purchase? 2005 E500 or 1995 S420 W140
I am new to the forums and new to Benz vehicles. I'm considering getting the itch for something new. I can do all my own work and have owned many Audi's in the past so I'm somewhat familiar with German engineering.
Both cars have had two owners and are in pristine condition with extensive up to date service records. There are no known issues with the vehicles.
The 2005 has 64k miles and the 1995 has 99k miles.
I've done some research on both but I haven't been able to find anything that compares the two.
If any one can compare and contrast the vehicles so that I can make a more informed decision, it would be greatly appreciated.

Id go for the E500, newer and less miles, that era S class makes me nervous although i admit i have never owned one... I was an Audi guy until the 2003 cab we bought new..... electronic issue's where atrocious and the dealer was a tool... swore off them because of it...

I recommend the E500, only because of age. Known issues with E 02 06 were the SBC units, which has a advisory champaign in place for dealers to update. It comes with the V8, and still hold its own on the pavement! GLWP

Since I own both 97 C140 (S500) and 2005 E320, the quality of materials are better on the W140 than the W211 (same with the W220 S). I would drive both and then make your choice,, both drivetrains are solid but with age there will be issues with both cars but if you do diy you will be okay with either choice.
