I am so hoping to have someone who knows of, or who has had this problem. I have a ‘95 S420 with a new engine wiring harness, two new distributor caps and rotors, and new plug wires. When I start the engine, my instrument cluster gauge warning lights either stay on steady, or Flash constantly, and none of the needle gauges work. All red warning lights(battery, etc.) are off though. I was told when I changed the engine harness, that there was a secondary wire harness that would eventually go bad too, because of the bad insulation. Can anyone tell me if this may be the cause of my problem, and where is that secondary wiring harness located? Please help!

Test Mode? How is that done sir? I’m still racking my brain with this one and hope that someone with knowledge of it can help.
I first wrote on this form about the problem with my ‘95 S420 intermittent flashing tattle tale lights in gauge cluster, about a month ago. After removing the cluster, and sending it to Joplin, Missouri to have it fixed. It took a week, and upon getting it back, not only was the problem not fixed, (they said it had some issues, but couldn’t test it) the illumination lights in the cluster, the gearshift, and the door seat switches, do not work now! Glad they’re not charging me for nothing but shipping,($30 both ways) I’ve changed both distributor caps and rotors, right side valve cover gasket, all breather hoses, rebuilt the power steering pump, replaced the motor on the PSE pump,(works great), the car runs like new except for my dash cluster problem. Also, the steering wheel gets stiff when the lights are flashing, but goes back to normal when the lights go out and gauges start working again. I guess my next move is an expensive fix at the Mercedes dealer.
I wish I had another option. Can someone help me please!
