Horrifying discovery!
I just discovered that the insulation on the whole engine wiring harness has disintegrated on my 1992 600SEL! I had replaced the center harness that runs to the injectors, etc. years ago thinking that was the only part of the harness that Bosch had problems with! Do I have any chance in ever finding a complete engine harness on the planet? And my worst fear is that my "93" 600SL has the same issue but I'm almost afraid to look.

Use the search button on this site and you will find more examples. Options are to buy a replacement from M-B, if it is offered, find a specialist shop to make a new harness, or make a new harness DIY. DIY is not that hard, because the end connectors are generally available. Wiring is wiring, it just takes time and patience to map out what goes where, and to make the terminations properly.

Lots of options from as simple as zip ties and electrical tape, to corrugated plastic sleeving and more. Depends on your goal, whether to get by with good enough for a short time, or restore to concours level originality.

Please check out Victor at restoreyourmercedes.com. He offers a solution on his website. He’s a great guy who really knows these cars, although even he is not the one to solve by limp mode problem, even though he tried.

Thanks for the info Ken. I'm about 2 hours from completing the extensive rewiring of this engine! Great practice since I have to do the exact same thing on my 600SL!

Ken, I just looked at his website and the guy is completely out of his mind charging those prices!!! The OEM Mercedes injector harness is $250.00 and the MAF harnesses are $160.00 each! This is for a V12 engine direct from my M.B. dealer here in Pa.!
