trouble separating ball joint from steering knuckle

Title of the post says it all.
Vehicle is a 1999 S320 SWB.
I'm replacing the front suspension components and I can't get the ball joint (#11 in the diagram) separated from the steering knuckle (#5).
I've removed the steering knuckle from the car so I have more room to work on it.
I've tried using a ball joint separater (it broke!) and hitting it with a sledge hammer, but it won't budge.
I have a Harbor Freight 20-ton shop press, but because of the irregular shape of the steering knuckle I can't get it positioned in the press at a good angle.
I've run out of ideas.
Help!

Wow, old post. I sold this car to my brother last year. It's now his daily driver and (except for the gas mileage) he loves it.
I ultimately got the ball joint out with my shop press. It took a lot of monkeying around and used of scrap metal to hold the steering knuckle in the right position. It broke loose with a loud BANG and it blew a hole in the bucket I had positioned under the press to catch it.
