fuel filter

Can someone please tell me where the fuel filter is on my 93 400 sel? My car in the past month or so never starts on the first key turn always on the second when I first start the car in the morning, or if I let the car sit for about 5 or 6 hours it will do the same. I was told it may be a dirty fuel filter but am not sure where it is.
any help woud be appreciated.
thanks.

in front of the fuel tank, right side of car. looks on the epc like a tin can size thing (as in tin of tomatoes etc) with tubes at either end.

edit
As stated below - depressurise fuel system - an easy way is to start the car, and pull the wire off the fuel pump - it will run for a few seconds before spluttering to a halt.
Pulling the fuse doesnt work (on my car anyway) as the computer for the injectors must use the same power damhikijkok....

Guy, I do believe that this thing is under the car ahead of the right rear wheel (which would place it ahead of the fuel tank). There is a black plastic shield that once removed will allow access to the fuel filter, pump(s), accumultaor, etc.

Silsbenz, PLEASE be careful when servicing the fuel system. If there are as they should be, there is tremendous pressure in the system at all times. I learned this the hard way trying to fix a leaking seal when I replaced my filter a few years ago. Nearly burned the house down.

As long as you are under the car, you may want to replace the accumulator as well. This is also known to cause the problem you stated.

REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT

I'm assuming you have the dual fuel filter... Hope this helps...

Release fuel tank pressure by removing the fuel cap.
Disconnect the negative battery pole.
Remove protective box (69).
(hose clamp) or equivalent, pinch off fuel suction (53) and pressure (52) hose.
Get a fuel safe container.
Remove screw (59) from fuel filter. Collect remaining fuel with fuel safe container. WARNING: Fuel may be under pressure. Use a rag or other protective device to shield your face from the fuel spray.
Remove fuel pressure hose (52) from fuel filter. Collect remaining fuel with fuel safe container.
Loosen mounting bracket (57).
Remove fuel pressure hose (52).
Remove fuel filter (55).
Install in reverse order. Check for the following:
Install fuel filter with plastic sheet. Plastic sheet protects against corrosion between filter and bracket.
Install fuel hoses/lines with new cooper seals (62) only.
Torque screw (59) to: 9 Nm (6.6 ft. lb.)
Run engine and check for leaks.
