Disable shifter lockout/steering lockout

Ok I have the ignition switch all apart and now have it working connected to the harness plug after replacing all the guts. Now it seems the steering is locked even though I had it in position one. I did not take off the lock mechanism from the column, well, because I couldnt, even after pushing up on the pin w. the 10mm bolt removed. I separated the black plastic part with the two springloaded buttons. I may have twisted the whole thing inadvertently trying to put it back in.
I am just about ready to drill through the pin as shown by the video posted. And also disable the shifter lock some how. This would mean taking the white plastic thing out of the barrel so the key could come out. The thing is total voodoo. Where and what is at the other end of the lockout cable.
The car runs great sitting in my driveway!
There are a few different options here....
