Cabin Air filter ,96 S320

96 S500 Coupe
open the hood, look at the area where the wipers are, you will see a black cover with a lot of little hex screws. Remove that cover.
stand on the passenger side, you will see a black box right beside the quarter panel (thats your ECU box), next to it there is another black box with red and green vacuum lines going into it... the filter is below that cover. You will notice a few phillips screws holding the cover down... remove screws, and lift that cover up (you dont need to remove the vac lines).. then you will see the filter... lift it out and put a new there, and put everything back together.
This is how it looks like when you lift the box:

Also, there is recirculating air filter above the passenger footwell, much easier to replace than the "grand piano" (you will understand when you see it) filter under the hood. The recirc filter media closely resembles the stuff you see in furnace filters.
