w140 Bose system - CD & Cassette not working
I have a 1993 400 SEL. I had the head unit, tuner, antenna and the Bose amplifier refurbished by Becker Autosound. However, the cassette and trunk-mounted 6-CD player do not work. A cassette won't even trigger the mechanism that grabs the cassette as you are inserting it, though if I insert it halfway, the display momentarily displays "TRK". The CD mode doesn't even come up on the display - pushing the "mode" button brings up "cc - e". The cassette mode also doesn't come up if I use the "mode" button. Both of these problems predate the system generally not working and I don't think it has anything to do with the rebuild of the equipment. Becker told me it is possible that a previous owner may have serviced the radio and for some reason perhaps chose to bypass the CD player altogether if it wasn't working. All cable connections appear to be present from the CD player to the tuner in the trunk (though I probably wouldn't know if they weren't - there just seem to be no unconnected cables anywhere). Becker also said that it is most likely the laser in the CD player - they go bad after so many years and no one fixes them anymore. anybody have any clues out there? The radio is now working, which is great, but I would love the rest of the system to be fully operational - the sound is outstanding.
