Inherited a broken 95 S420
Hello Everyone
I just inherited by grandfather's S420 with 98k miles. My father has been "taking care of it" the past 5 years and I just received the car a few days ago. Some of the issues my father told me before hand is that the ABS and ASR lights are on. He had the brakes replaced a few months back and his MB guy told him he need the new sensors but not sure what sensors. I can not ask the MB mechanic as he passed away recently. My father also mentioned it was leaking power steering fluid.
When I received the car, the first thing I noticed that it was idling rough. When you start the car cold, it idles fine but once the engine warms up the RPM dip very low and car begins to shake and almost stall. When I turn on the A/C during that time, RPM dip dramatically but when I turn it off, the RPM jump to over 1000 then drops down to 500ish and begins to shake again. The car is also leaking coolant as when I got it I had to put in 3/4 of a gallon of coolant. Not able to see where it is leaking exactly but I believe it is leaking somewhere on the passenger side of the car.. Hoping it's the radiator plug needs to be replaced. It also has various issues with the door locks, windows not moving up smoothly, and the trunk is not closing flush. I think the trunk has a vacuum leak or needs a new vacuum lock.
So those are the issues I see with the car right now but I'm pretty sure I will find more once I get the car raised and have someone check it out. I have an appointment with Ben's Workshop in Austin to take a look at it but does anyone know of any other good shops or mechanics that specialize in old MB or W140 in my area. I live just south of Austin in between Austin and San Marcos. Also any information on my various issues and what I can do to fix them? I have not decided on if I want to keep the car due to this issues but I'm hoping it nothing to major or costly.
Thanks
