w140 CL500 5.0 m119 Air Box

Hello everyone! I am trying to revive a '98 CL500 (w140/c140) with a 5.0 liter V8 engine, which is the venerable m119, also found in r129 SL500. So far, my problem is rather stupid: I've removed the airbox (containing two air filters) and I can't install it back properly. In the front it seats on two steel clips, no problem. But on the rear it has two prongs sticking out, which are supposed to hook to something. On the rear part of each valve cover there seem to be a round mashroom-type formation, which I thought the air box is supposed to hook into; however, they're thicker then the prongs, and the air box does not go in. So at the present time, it's completely loose on the rear, which I suspect is not the way it's supposed to be. I haven't yet started the car, as I only managed to put some fresh fuel in the gas tank yesterday, and I am already having problems with an almost-new battery. Can someone please tell me what is it that I am doing wrong with the air box? Thank You. Oh, and on a side not, the car has been sitting without having been even so much as started for about 9 years.

Also, while I am at it, the car does not start at all. Fuel pump makes noise, there are about 7 gallon of 93 octane gasoline in the tank, the starter spins the motor pretty well, but there is nothing.

The air box slides under the rear bumpers and clips into the front hooks. This creates a seal for the MAF. Crank no start could be no spark, no fuel, etc. (coils, injectors, plugs, timing) not something that can be easily explained unless you validate what isn’t working. No start for years, the reason for sitting may be the starting point to begin diagnosis.
