Are the W140/V140 really that rare?

Hi. I picked up a 1999 S420 with 57k miles Polar White /Parchment three weeks ago. I was digging around the WWW and uncovered a thread about 1999 Global production for W140. I was hoping to get an education why so few were imported into USA in 1999 vs the previous years?

I am showing only 374 S420 were imported. Can this be correct? Why is this so few? Anyway to find out how many were imported by color in 1999?

This car runs brand new. Not a ding or scratch. The interior is perfect as well I took it to Jiffylube and flushed all the fluids then over to the Dealer to get the brake fluid flushed. They did a 32 point inspection and recommended nothing & found nothing wrong with this car.

I’ve got one issue. The glove box will not open no matter how hard I try. Any suggestions? USA Imported Numbers

See the attached Pdf Copy of the Owners Manual - see Manual Pg#67 (or so) - with Key rotate Center Lock to Lock (Horizonal) and back to Unlock (Vertical) several times untill all "feels smooth" - then in Inlock Position (Verticial) push BOTTOM Button firmly.

If you are looking to Drive/Enjoy your "99'r" - frankly ANY 22yr old Mercedes does need Pre-Emptive Care.

Good news - there is a TON of Owner Info out there - including Videos on most jobs

1. Air Filter - (2) required - Mann ONLY (not any other bullsh*t filter) = 2 pack $20 on Amazon

2. When replacing Air Filters - have $12 of MAF Cleaner and clean MAF/air dry at the same timer

3. Fuel Filter = Mahle $18 - and you will need a couple of standard hose clamps to replace the Mercedes Original "trickster" clamps

4. AFTER fresh fuel filter - 10 oz bottle Sta-Bil Marine Fuel Stabilizer (Blue) $15 - dump 1/2 bottle in and fill the tank - use the other 1/2 bottle 6-8 tanks of fuel down the road

5. Flush out all old coolant - "could be" Old Yellow - "could be" newer Blue - either way flush all out with fresh hose water - use Zerez G-48 (new) and dilute concentrate with Distilled Water (no hose water)

6. Replace Transmission Adapter Plug - Genuine MB (or Mopar Crossfire) ONLY - $16 - the Original adapter plug was internally faulty

7. When Ready - research Trans Filter Kit - Febi $30 - Trans dipstick $30 - replacement Trans Magnet $15 - correct fluid Fuchs - Febi - or Shell 134 - research procedure - either "exchange method" or "drain/fill method"

11. When you are ready - research Spark Plug Change - 12 - current Bosch reference 7422 about $100 + 14mm 12pt thin wall swivel socket & 17mm boot removal wrench set- $42 FCPEuro

Words indeed. Thank you. I am replacing the blower resistor circuit tomorrow and cabin filter. It just stopped working. MB forum said to try that first then blower motor if resistor does not work. $20.97 off Amazon or $374 from dealer 😂 I can Hear the solenoids open the vents. Rear trunk quiet close stopped working but all the doors worked. I unplugged #9 fuse and it started working again. The owner of the car passed away and when I 1st looked at it had a 3” inch file handed down from previous 2 owners. When I went to pick up the car she had misplaced the folder she says. I think she held onto it to be closer to her deceased husband? I called her last week and she did not return my call so I won’t be getting it back. The CARFAX showed service at a dealership until 26k miles and then it fell off the map. It had been serviced at European shops since 2005. I figured it would be $460 or so to change the plugs at the dealer? They wanted $1,060 😂 😂. I did a 1/4 mile run getting on the hwy and it sure did get out of its own way. I recorded it on my phone as it crossed over 124mph. I had all the fluids flushed at Jiffy lube and brake fluid flushed, fuel injection service at MB dealer. The air filters were new and fuel filter located in the gas tank? I placed a quart of mystery oil & sea foam in the tank then topped it off with a fresh tank of 93 super.

I am getting the detail done today then pictures / videos afterwards. Then listing it on BaT. It will be the lowest mileage S420 and it’s a rare final production year. It should do well & end up in a collection in California etc?
