Gas mileage and Car sevicing,engine oil
Hi folks,
I have 1994 S500 and 2000 S430.
Few questions,will appreciate if you could answer them .
1) How much milage at 1994 S500 should give ? I get like 12 miles/gallon and i drive mostly in the city. is that acceptable?
2) What is the best place to get the mercedes servicing done?
Mercedes dealer or any repair shop ? Are these mercedes dealer pretty expensive? My mechanic charges me $60 for oil change, every 3000 miles.
10,000 miles service- $300
30,000 miles service - $600
Are these prices good or should I look around?
3) When is oil change due for 1994 S500? is it need to be changed every 3000 miles?
What about 2000 S430, mercedes dealer told me that you need to change only after 10,000 miles for 2000 S430 , because they use synthetic oil?
I don't understand this

This is a good question... I change oil in my Camaro every 2000 miles...jsut because it needs it LOL 
But about my S420...Im trying to find it out too..as soon as Ill know somehintg ill let You know

1998 E300
the 12 mpg city sounds a bit on the low side, but it depends on your driving habits. As for i good shop, IMHO, theres no place better than doing it your self. And for the oi changes, you should switch to sythetic in the S500 too. There is no reason not to. But i would not go past 7-8k miles without having the oil checked.

Your owner's manuals will provide recommended service intervals.
Your prices for oil change and scheduled maintenance sound reasonable for a specialized Mercedes mechanic, high for a gas station mechanic or Jiffy Lube.
My mileage on a 97 model S600 has been around 17-18 mpg. Much of the miles are a 15-20 mile commute that my wife drives daily on the highway. I expect 13-15 for all city driving. Yours seems low.
