Mercedes 500SEL Climate Control Buttons Not All Working

Hello,

Does anyone know how to repair the buttons on the W140 first generation Climate Control?
I’ve got four buttons that don’t work when pushed (Ie the red led doesn’t come on and the hvac doesn’t switch over).

I took the Control box out of the console but couldn’t figure out how to get the buttons themselves off. Was hoping that they had a membrane that could be cleaned to get them to contact and work.

Is that possible?

Thanks in advance.

The controller style

Those buttons are serviced via replacement. You will need the pair of tools to remove the radio. Little stamped steel guys. I may have them from when I had the 500E. Same radio. Be gentle with the wood. Easily damaged. In the 500E the ashtray had to come out, wood around shifter came out pull the radio to gain access to center console wood fasteners. Seems like it is similar in your 140 car.

- So the individual button can be removed? If so how?

Thanks

Clarification: Where a button for HVAC has expired.... it will get serviced via replacing the assembly that conveniently arrives with all those HVAC buttons and the spinny wheel for temperature.

Individual switches above and below for other functions can be replaced individually. I installed a traction control off button in the 500E above. Was great for being a savage and making a one tire fire.

Looks like you can spam the buttons for a while and they will work again. I got all of them working by hitting the button quickly for a few minutes each. Now they work right on.
