92 Phone
The 92 was an "analog OKI system" the transmitter/rcvr sat in the trunk wall behind and below the antenna. It had a splitter hooked to the antenna so that the phone used the AM/FM antenna for cellular. Some cars had the splitter installed in others it was installed as part of the "cell" option and in some cars the antenna was not a "Tri-Band (black top). The car was factory wired and had the control head in the glove bin above the center vents which would allow hands free dialing, memory , and other display options. There was a cradle in the console for for handset use but had no dialing functions. I dont think you have a microphone since the mirophone was in the "glove bin" portion of the control head, a factory service option provided a separate microphone in the bolster below the igniton switch. The bin had a hole cut in the rear to accept two cables fror the control head, which are back there. The grill you speak of, is the aspirator vent that samples the cabin air, and routes it back to the heater. The phone provided a mute function to the radio, with a display of PHONE, and there were two speakers installed on the outboard sides of the dash for phone audio, with no radio function. The power antenna also recd a input from the phone/handset to raise it whenever the switch on the side of the handset was on.
I have also removed it and the space is useful in both the bin and console.
I would suggest you invest in a hands free kit, thee are some no mar mounting kits available, since adapting to the existing cables can be done if you are a qualified elecrtonic technician with a lot of patience since the connectors are proprietary, and have changed in 94 and 96 with the changeover to hand held units which also are proprietory units to MB manufactured by Motorola.
