Does Chip change shifting performance?

hey guys, people keep reporting that sometimes performance software changes the way the car shifts and sometimes even would do 1st gear start just from chip, is this true? I have a 6cyl w140 but 1st gear kit from bergwerks its not an option b/c of the shifter console being different. any help is appreciated.

AUTOMATIC VEHCILES: any time you are installing a chip it changes the gear ratio to compensate for the new power displacement and prevent engine blow out

ahh ok lol, well i read on some old forums that some chips (if not all of them) on the W140's change the shifting behavior of the car to a more sporty/aggressive one and i was wondering if anyone know which companies chips do that to W140's.
