S600 and S500 performance

My friend is going to buy one of those "BIG S" cars. I am just wondering about performance of those cars..
How long does it take from 0-60MPH, 0-100MPH? 1/4 mile run, max. speed.
He is interested in S500 and S600. Thanks for your info!

s500 = 6.6 q/t mile times = 15.0 ..... I went to the track and ran a 14.57 so depends on the car.

Your friend should consider the higher maintenance costs associated with the 12 cylinder engine. My wife drives our 1998 S600. We upgraded from a 1996 S500 and my daughter currently drives a 1995 S500 coupe. Both cars have an ample amount of power and you really cannot feel the difference between the 500 and 600 until you get out on the highway. The 600 has a tad more options than the 500 and the suspension is completely different. Tell your friend to test drive both and see which suits him best. They are great cars and have given me a good experience overall. For the numbers:

W140 S600: 0-60=6.1 seconds 1/4 mile=14.6 seconds

W140 S500: 0-60=6.8 seconds 1/4mile=15.2 seconds

If you purchase an S600, I cannot emphasize how imperative it is that you locate a competent dealership or mechanic. With the exception of one, every dealership in the United States is operated independently. Be aware that under no circumstance does a Mercedes-Benz accreditation ensure quality of service.

i drove a S600 and it has a mountain of torque, it really feels MUCH faster than the 6.1 times states. i heard they are as fast as 5.8 depending. either way they are awesome but maintenance is hell i hear.

On my way back from Miami to Virginia I encountered a very aggressive driver in a C5 Corvette. He had been flashing his lights at me to move over despite my 85-90mph speed. So I moved over after passing some slow traffic and when he pulled up beside me he slowed down to match my speed. The road was clear ahead at this point and after a minute or so I heard him downshift, so being playful I gave the 600 half throttle. That is when I heard him open up the Vette so I did the same... it was kind of funny to see the Vette 1-2 car lengths behind me once I hit 125. I slowed down only to get passed by him at a speed over 130mph and then seeing him pulled over by a South Carolina state trooper 15 miles down the road! The S600 really does have incredible power at "autobahn" rpm ranges.
