If my memory serves me correctly, the 300SE and 300 SEL W140 both had the same 3.2 liter 24 valve as the S320 SWB/LWB. The 1992-1994 model years had the older grill, taillights, yellow fogs. 1995 still had the "turn" style climate control and the reverse antennas. In 1996 I believe the climate control unit was upgraded and the Bose stereo became an option. 1995-1996 had a different grill, headlights, tails. The W140 then went another minor transformation in 1997 with the monotone paint schemes, different tailights, and wheels. I am probably missing some information, but I hope this helps some.

they are essentiallly idential cars, motor wise the intake wraps around to the opposite side on the S320, where as the 300 has the intake on the drives side away from the headers on the right side (better design in my opinion and easier to make intake for). another difference is the 300SE is quit a bit quicker because it has the 3.69 gears which was the most aggressive gearing mercedes ever used in any of their cars, by comparison the V8's only run 2.54 so you can see its a big jump, this made the performance with the 400SE identical but they were too close so mercedes pulled back its gearing for the S320 and eventually added an overdrive 5speed.

well i know the diffrence after the face lift when the changed the grill the head lamps the tali lights even the seats but all that is easy to do i mean i found a total lost s320 with seats that looks like the coupes i cant remmember its name i was thinking to change the interior of the car couse the crashed one is the indivsual leather dash i mean looks like the s600 from the insied so it would be nice the most important thing to me is the engine altho i do get a 30% discount on parts i dont want a car that is a pain in the neack and when i drove the s280 man there was no power in that car

and yeah i wanted to ask dose the 300sel has electronic fule enjection or is it like the old ones semi-fule injection like my 560sec

300SE/S320 is definately the most reliable of the W140's b/c 6cyl is pretty much bulletproof and never ever has problems. i have yet to have a single motor related problem. anyways hope that helps

Well the inline 6s are bulletproof but they have a history of oil leak coming from the top gasket seal. I'm going to admit that the inline 6 is a pretty solid unit if the damn thing can pull all that weight in a W140 . The 8 cylinder is a more potent unit, but still I have respect for the inline 6 . Some people fill that the 6 is underpowered but in its own respect the engine holds its own pretty well.

ya poor engine has to push nearly 5000lbs lol. The good news is the motor is actually under rated when i dynoed the car it dynoed more than my M3 stock which was rated at 240HP. like most mercedes motors and specs its underrated which is good to know.
