I hear MB is bringing a 6-cyl into the S-Class...

while at the dealer today (had battery replaced due to 1 dead cell and right folding mirror motor replaced cuz it would get stuck when opening) I overheard the sales manager telling one of the customers that MB is bringing a 6-cyl to the S-Class.

Now, the guy seems pretty knowledgeable from other things he described to the customer (such as upcoming models, engines, etc)...but not sure if this info is credible? He did add in that "MB hasn't had a 6-cyl in the S-Class since the late 90's in the w140"...so who knows. Seems like he knows his stuff, anyone else hear of this news?

Mercedes has always installed 6-cylinders in the S-class, since the 60s. A lot of the 6-cylinders are even diesels.

In the US, these haven't been sold consistently. But the 6-cylinder 350 engine will be replacing the 8-cylinder 430 engine in the lineup.

(Kind of old news... I seem to recall this thread here already but not sure. You may want to search because it probably has more information.)

I know MB has always had 6-cyl's in the S-Class...I forgot to put US specifically As they stopped the 3.2 6-cyl when the w220 came aboard.

But good to know the 350 is comin' in to the linup/

I did not hear the S 430 wil be dropped. What I did hear is the the S 350 will come to the US in the W (short wheelbase) body only.

2003 E320
I'm quite sure that there are V6 S classes around in European and Asian markets. I see S320s, S320 CDIs and S350s around all the time...

The S350 is now on Mercedes's website.

I had almost missed it. I was drooling over the S65 that I never saw the S350 listed. When I went back today to check out the S65 I noticed the S350.

The price was just over $65K which puts it about even with a comparably equipped E500. And it's priced lower than the debut price of the S430 back in 1999 (I think it was $68K) Unlike the other S models in the US this is not a long wheel base measuring only 116.7" vs 121.5" . The 350 engine looks tuned down to only 241HP from 268HP in the E350 and SLK350 (probably too close to the 275HP in the S430).

Probably a good move for Mercedes in the last couple years of the W220 production.
