Angry S320 AIRMATIC noise

Folks I have just had a new airmatic pump replaced+2 hoses 2 weeks ago. I then had a new airmatic relay replaced 2 days ago. Now the pump is making a drilling noise when I select airmatic and the vehicle rises.

I dont think the noise is "normal", but I am fed up going back to Mercedes garage (still under 12 month warranty 2001 model)

What do you think!!!!

It was commented by one of the embarassed sales managers that it would have cost £1,000 plus labour ( $ 1,500 ), to which I replied i am glad it is still under warranty ! Dont let them tell you it is normal noise, try to raise the airmatic on a new car and I bet it doesnt make a drilling sound!!

good luck

Thanks.....

Mine really isn't making that drilling sound, it's basically just making a lot of adjustment noises, much more than normal but no error codes have poppped up yet on the display.
It's going into the dealership tomorrow will see what mayhem takes place

it might be a relay switch which causes spluterring adjustment , noises.

Yes mine made a lot of adjustment noises too, check relay switches/sensors and the pump and hoses

I just got her back, they say they couldn't replicate my described symptoms.
So I guess it'll just have to wait till it's doing it again then I'll drive it right to them and show them what I'm talking about hopefully nothing like complete air-matic failure happens ...

I had a complete air-matic failure on my 2000 S430 (b. 3-30-99), and the last noise I heard before the system totally crapped out was the drilling noise. I had just pulled into my driveway and turned off the engine, but the pump continued to run. As a matter of fact it ran for over an hour with the intermittant drilling noise. Next morning I looked like a California low-rider as the body sat directly on top of the tires. The car had 48,000 miles and MB fixed everthing under warranty, but I was told that it was a $5000 repair.
