Manual one-touch shifting Qestions

We have a 04 S430. One thing that I dont like about the shifting of the one-touch feature.

The car has: 1,2,3,4,5,6,and then D

When in "D" if, I want to shift it down to the next lower gear (flicking the lever to the left), The gear jumps all the way down to first. It skips the rest.

On my C Class it is different, if I was in D, and I shift it down, it goes to 4, then 3 if i hit it down again.

My question: Is this normal for it to downshift all the way back to 1 from D for these S Classes?
Up shifting seem fine.

Thanks.

The c class is the old 5 speed. It would only go down 1 gear. ex: 5-> 4 3->2 Yuor S class I believe has the 7 speed. It will go from whatever gear you are on to the next best gear. Example, if you are on 6 and are going 20 miles in hour and flip it to the left to bring it down, it will go to 2nd gear, since it makes no sense to be in 5th gear when you are doing 20mph.

Thanks for the info.

It seem to be a nice feature to shifting down the the 'best' gear.

But, the car seem to go to 1st every time....
Is this because i am shifting down from driving in D?, and this feature only works with gears 1-6?

Beacuse A while back I was on the HWY driving in D, and then I encountered some traffic, after passing traffic, I decided to shift down to a lower gear to give it more power....The car shifted all the way down to first gear and the engine was reving like crazy....so I had to upshift it back.

Anyone else who can share their input?

Thanks.
