Playing DVDs in 2006 S350

Hello everyone. I was hoping the collective knowledge of this site might be able to help me out. A friend of mine just recently purchased a 2006 S350. Basically his problem is that everytime he wants to watch a movie on his system (I'm guessing it's a DVD/Nav combo, I haven't seen it in person yet) the screen puts out a message that says something about dimming the screeen so as to not distract the driver. I know that this is a safety feature and most of the time it's something simple like a wire that's attached to the parking brake. I was just curious if anyone was in a similar situation and found a solution. I was trying to research his problem but I don't know if it's because he has a new car or if the system is new, but I haven't found a lot of information on it. My other question is, is it possible to add additional headrest monitors to the car without too much trouble. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

certain model years are able to it with secret menu access but for the most part it is not possible. Don't think any wire "trick" has been known to work.

Search for terms "holy grail" on this forum or benzworld forum. I believe the replacement for the E class 03 Comand recall was able to it, but don't know if other MY can or not.

Won't happen! I also went to the dealer and they attached their computer that controls all functions for the command unit. The tech indicated there was no able/disable function for my 05 S500. I have heard you can install a european command unit and the DVD picture can be seen.

Man, I should've known MB would've made it complicated. Would my friend be able to buy something aftermarket such as an Pioneer AVIC-N2 which has DVD/NAV/MP3?

srknutson: Is the 05 system the same as the 06?

Thanks for the replies guys, he just wants something to keep his kids busy while on long drives.

The 05 and 06 are the same. If you take the car to a customizer who knows his ***** they can do anything you desire. It gets complicated when you take out the command center, but I would think you would be able to get the rear headrest LCD's for the kids in the rear. Without changing the command center, however I don't know anyone who has tried this personnally. I would do a search on this site to see if anyone has more info.
