Please help with my first 2001 S500

Hi I just bought a 2001 S500. The car has 100000km (65000 miles) and so does not have MB warranty any longer. However, I understand that there is a powertrain warranty to 120000km (75000 miles). Is this true? What does that cover?

Can someone recommend a good aftermaket warranty company for my car, perferably in canada.

Thank you very much,

Oscar

Actually, we are going to purchase an aftermarket coverage for the '01 S430 coming this September when the MB extra year of coverage is up. The 4th year extra MB coverage was $1900 for one year. The private carrier is going for another 4 years and 50k miles for only $4700. This price took in consideration that the mileage was between 40K and 60k on the car (actual 41k). The MB dealer is offering this private carrier's policy. As unreliable as this car has been, the coverage for another 4 years/50k is a lot better than spending the $50,000 difference for another new one with only 3yr/36K warranty at this time. One of these days when MB designs a more reliable vehicle, we may spring for another.

We just purchased an extended warranty from warrantydirect.com for our 01 S600. So far we haven't used it, but it seems to cover most of the car. Price was about $4700 with $0 deductible.

SouthernSon, isn't mercedes new car warranty 4 year 50K?

Did you have to pay one lump sum or are the payments broken down?
The only problem I see with warrantydirect is it doesn't cover many of the electronics...especialy the command centre. However, I have heard that they're one of the better warranties.

We payed the whole thing up front. I can't remember if they had a payment option or not. If they did, I think they charged a small fee or interest.

When I was looking around, it seemed like most extended warranties don't cover the comand either. Which ones do?

Also, when I was talking to the sale rep from warrantydirect, she was explaining something to me about how their warranty covers wear and tear, where as the other ones don't? I just went ahead and got it. lol

Maybe. I think I might be confused....hehehe....

I am thinking we purchased 9/00. 4 yrs plus 1 extra for 9/05.....Yeah, that's the ticket!!! (Whew! man that was close....I almost ran out of fingers....)
