I have a rolling code opener and a 2002 S430. The trick is to have the owner's manual for your door opener in hand and to do this in three stages in two locations with a friend handy.
1) far away from the garage.... program the Benz's builtin opener using your existing remote, like it says in the owners guide and/or the site link in the earlier message in this thread.
2) read the garage door opener manual. It will tell you how to get the opener base unit into learn mode (mine (LiftMaster) had a special button to press) and how long the opener will stay there (mine was three seconds!)
3) now into the garage with you, with your Benz and a friend within sight and within remote range. Your friend goes in the car with instructions to watch you and press the button you programmed when you give him/her the high sign.
4) You get on a ladder in the garage and get to the opener base unit. Get it into learn mode and give your friend the high sign.
That was all it took. My existing remotes continue to work as does the built in one.
I hope this helps.

thanks joel, that process worked for me but i was able to do it inside my garage. i put my hand-held opener up to the mirror and pushed both buttons simultaneously. after, the mirror light would blink rapidly when i pushed the button. then i pushed the learning button on my opener and held down the same mirror button 3 times for about 2 seconds each time. each time, i held the button down until the light stayed solid instead of blinking.
