Anyone else experience this? What is the problem?
When I get in the car and start it, occasionaly the a/c does nothing or at least the fan system is not blowing. I am not sure if the rest of the system is working but the fan is off completely off. If I mess around with the controls a bit it will come on. This has happened about once a week for the last six weeks. I am afraid this is one of those intermintin problems that will never show itself at the shop! Will this get progressivly more frequent? Will it go away? What do I do?

There is a A/C blower motor recall (free repair)... Call your local dealer and give them your VIN # and they will let you know.

I have had that happen to my S500, not to frequently though, but when it does it is always on a HOT HOT HOT day. I will see what my dealer says about it, the car is in for service right now.

had same problem

we had the same problem. on hot day, the damn fan wouldn't come on...
very annoying. had it 'fixed' a year ago and i don't think it's doing it again.

take it to the dealer, didn't know it was a recall. that's good.

Idiots

They can't pinpoint the problem, the recall was already done on my car and it still happens on occasion. They said that it is designed not to blow hot air on you and that may be what is going on. I told them it happens occasionally at different times. Yesterday will driving I turned it off for a minute, then turned it on and it was delayed for about a half a minute before it started blowing again. So their theory is out.

Let me guess

I predict when you get your car back the report will say:

"UNABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM"

Me too...

Have had the same problem, but only two or three times in five years. I found that if I stop the car, turn it off, take the key out, and restart the engine, the fan always works fine. I think todays cars are a lot like our computers. Sometimes you have to re-boot it to get things back to "normal."

Just heard from the dealer.

They cannot duplicate the problem and no error codes came up. They basically threw there hands up. I told them to keep the car and dig deeper!!!

This dealer is 45 miles from my home and thus big incconvience.

Will keep you informed....

Just got back from the dealer...

I brought my E55 in for C service and mentioned to them that I had the A/C problem you folks have mentioned:

Only on hot days, I get in the car and I expect the A/C to start blowing cold air, but all I get is more hot air. I turn off the A/C and turn it back on and it seems to reset itself and all is well. The problem was intermittant.

The service tech replaced the "electronic blower motor regulator"...here are the tech notes verbatim:

"performed road test verified performed quick test find code 9460
performed actual values and activations testing OK R&R blower motor
and regulator and performed an elct test at regulator 11.6V performed
an elect test at motor find ov intermittant replaced blower regulator
and performed AC function test find ok now"

Hope this helps.
