Will Used W220 Prices Drop When the W221 Starts Hitting the Steets?
Just curious as to what you guys think - I am trying to sell my W210 and get a W220 and was wondering if waiting a few months would make a dramatic (or any) difference.
When is the New W221 going to show up at the dealers?
Thanks!

Already here
I think you are already seeing a significant drop in W220s in anticipation of the W221. Prices could actually go up when people get a look at the W221 and its high price. I'd act now if I wanted to get a good price on the W220.

If I were you, I wouldnt get W220. It offers nothing out of the ordinary that another Benz Class does not. I would hold you're current car unless you are having issues with it.

But the new S and the "fender flares" bother me. I don't know if they will look better in person or not and hope they are not a "fad" like the fins were in the late 60's.
I went to pick up my license plates today and talked with my sales rep. They are having a Maybach Bash at the dealership and there were 3 of them on the floor. I mentioned that the new S rear was very much like the Mayback but the S had those fender flares. He said that he has several customers who will not commit to the new S because of the fenders and he is hoping it does not become an issue.
So give me the S430 and it's more classic appearance (at least until the warranty expires and I find myself back in the market.)

Falling values of W220
I would think it was inevitable that values of W220s will fall once the W221 hits the the showroom next year.
I get the impression that the Dealerships are offering good incentives to offload their existing stock of W220s and values of first generation cars are about 25% of original list in the UK already.
If you are in the market for a new W220 now is a great time to negotiate an excellent deal. The upside is that you will get a car that should have all the production gremlins ironed out and is generally perceived as a nice design. The downside is that even with a good deal you will still see fairly steep depreciation so you need to hang onto the car for a good few years to make it stack financially.
If I were in the market for a used W220 I would wait for the new car to arrive as it`s arrival will have a adverse impact on the residual value of the entire W220 range and should mean that the more desirable later year models will become within range of more people.

Let's not kid ourself here: price of a used-car on current model always drop when a new one come out. There're exceptions here and there, but not any model I can recall in the last 30 years.
There will be a boat load of W220 owners who dump their cars for a newer 221 model. Those who have lot of cash (or might not be rich at all, but love car), and just want to have the latest. Simple rule of supply & demand: too many car being traded in, not enough buyer for them. The current W220 style is drop dead gorgeous, unfortunately, just as with the previous BMW 7 series (awesome look), price did/would take a heavy hit when the replacement come out. And the new 7 style (and that aweful i-drive) is nothing to write home about.
Even the highly sough after like the Ferrari F360 saw their price tank when the F430 come out. The W220 has been on the market for 6 years, just let's be a bit real here.

You wouldn't want to compare the Ferrari to the W220, would you ? Both the F50 and F360 used to sell with a huge mark-up, until the next model come out.
As I'm told, the F360 used to have 30-40K mark-up (sell as "used"), until the F430 came out, then they go for MSRP or a bit less. Same with the F50.
