I wonder why your US cars are limited to 130, why would Mercedes decide to do this? 130 is not particularly dangerous, particularly in a car that can reach those speeds rapidly. Having driven on derestricted autobahns from the south of Germany-luxembourg, you can easily sustain 130mph for the majority of the journey without much risk. In the UK the only limiter is at 155 and even that can be a bit fluid sometimes... I’ve had my CLK270cdi up to 148mph. I’ve had my 220cdi up to 137mph.

I had my ECM modified to remove the Speed Limiter...installed Z Rated tires and ran 174 MPH at a closed private Airport. Bone Stock S500 without Speed Limiter. The same day I saw an E55 AMG (unlimited) run 185. These cars are built for High Speed Cruising. They are as quiet and comfortable at 125 as most cars are at 75~80. The Drag Coefficient of an S500 is the same as a C6 Corvette....0.29. Very Slick !!
