Tranny question

i bought an '00 s500 a few months ago and its great. it is my first mb and now im sure it wont be my last. anyway, i had a question regarding the tranny. unfortunately, i park it outside. i have a 4 car garage but i have a few classic cars in it. i have to park on a down hill. when i go to leave, i make a 3 point u turn. i put it in reverse an go back and then come to a complete stop but the back end is now pointed slightly downhill. i then put it in drive but when i give it gas, it hesitates and goes backwards a couple of feet. the motor is reving but the tranny is not engaging. is this common with MB or am i just having problems with mine? if it is my tranny, i sure would like to take it in soon before my warrantee expires.

thanks
angel

I think your problems are related more to your parking situation than your S500. I would change it if possible. That is not common, but when I back out of my garage in the morning, down a steep driveway, and into the street w/ car pointing uphill, and I shift from R to D and give it a little gas, I get a distinct clunk. I do not believe that this is a tranny "problem."

this is strange because i dont feel that MB would make a tranny that would do that. it is a safety hazard as sometimes it keeps going backwards, when i am in drive and stepping on the gas, for about 5 feet. i have 8 cars and it seems that the only one that does this is my MB though 2 of my cars are a manual.

Angel,

That is strange enough that I would have someone check out the transmission fluid. You are correct that it is not a safe situation, but from what you don't say it sounds like it does not happen after the car gets going and the trans gets "warmed up."

Sounds like you have an extended warrenty, so I would take it in to the shop and have them check it out. Please let us know what you learn, because if it something I have to look forward to I would like to know.

Thanks & Happy Thanksgiving,

Gene

same thing happens with our cars, not mb but they all do it when i pull out. our driveway starts even than slopes steeply down.

I think the key is to come to a full stop before changing gears and starting off. I never get a bang if I do that, but it sounds like Angel may have something else going on. And since she apparently has a warrenty I think she might as well get a good check up before it ends.
