I am taking delivery of a 430Clk cab next week. I have included the same phone package offered with the S-class. Does anybody have information about substitute phones being useable with the cradle and assembly provided by MB? I have two lines and want to be able to use a second phone with the car.
Also, anybody know when they intend to start offering the v.60 phone instead?

V.60c phones are due out 3 December '01. You should be able to have your dealer hold up on the K2(a) Timeport Handset (don't take delivery of it) until the V.60 arrives.
There are no substitute phones available that will work with M-B's K2(a) system. The Timeport or V.60c from Motorola incorporate a M-B proprietary chip. ...RAB

Vic, there will be a retro-fit package for 2001+ model year vehicles. It includes the new V60c phone, a new cradle and possibly a new PSE. We will find out more info December 3rd !

Yes- my dealer confirmed that it will be a retrofit package you buy from the dealer. Unfortunately I could not hold up on the car- custom ordered and had already passed through the MB Port center in the US in NJ where they install K2a package. Had I asked them to wait, the dealer would be installing the package instead, which costs substantially more than having MB do it. I will buy the retrofit if it is not outrageously priced (but what are the odds of that????!!!)

I'll try this again. Tried Saturday, and my long, involved post was lost forever.
The handset is put in at the dealership. Thus if your K2A car arrives with a cradle and cord for a TimePort, your maximum cost liability, before the TimePort is installed, assuming the dealer is straight and level, is the difference in price between the 2 handsets, if any, plus the cost of the "conversion kit," (probably the cradle and cord), plus the cost of installation of same.
As of this morning we didn’t yet have a V.60, and I sold one on Saturday, so we’ll see if they’re really in the pipeline yet or not.
2001 and later vehicles are at least theoretically infinitely updateable as to phones. The plan is just a new cradle, cord, and handset and you’re up to the latest available phone, say 2010. 2000s can’t be updated at all. Some 99s can be updated to 2000. MLs can’t.

" The PSE box for the telephone package contains the software and associated electronics that are responsible for processing the voice data as well as the central processing of data to allow the integration of the phone with the vehicle. MY00, MY01, and MY02 PSE boxes are NOT the same internally. MY00 is 800MHz analog/digital. MY01 and MY02 are both 1900MHz digital in addition to 800MHz analog/digital. Only MY02 PSE supports either Timeport or v60 systems with appropriate coil cord, cradle, and handset."
