We left West Palm at 3:30 PM last Friday (12/23) and drove the S500 straight through to Sheffield , Alabama. I hit a Coyote about 2:30 AM on I-20 between Atlanta and Birmingham and cracked the front fascia down low in front of the left front wheel. Also broke a chunk out of the left front wheel well in front of the wheel.. I called GEICO and made a claim 12/24 so now that I'm back I have to make the appointment for the estimate and repair.. I was running about 85 in the left lane when I saw him come across the median. I swerved to the right to miss him but still caught him with the left front...minor damage...no real problem.
Drove to Nashville and on to Indianapolis for a White Christmas. Went back to Nashville, Birmingham and Tuscaloosa visiting relatives.
The car drove great and was super comfortable...especially the heated seats.
We got back last night about 9 PM after leaving Birmingham at 9:30 AM. We did about 800 miles in 10.5 hours including stops...we averaged 24.7 MPG for the whole trip...about 3500 miles. We were pleased with the mileage considering the fact that the car was PACKED. If you travel with a wife you don't travel light!!
The thing that is remarkable to me is how comfortable and smooth these cars are even for a 12 hour trip leg. Usually I am ready to bail after about 8 hours but a S500 makes 12 hours an easy goal.
Happy New Year

Get this, the trip took only one tank of gas and felt like only a hour long when it took more than 6 hours.
Happy New Year fellow W220ers!
