Winter tire sizing for '06 S350

Before the winter season and interest in the W220 officially die, anyone have suggestions as to winter tire size? I think OEM is 225/55/17, so I was thinking 215/65/16. That sound about right? Anyone with an S350 care to chime in?

Why go smaller? I don't think that gets you improved winter handling, does it? I stay w/ OEM size for winter on my S500 (225/60/16), but bump it up to a 245/45/18 front and 275/40/18 back for summer. It is really the tires that matter when it comes to handling. (Mine are Michelin X-Ice, winter, and Goodyear Eagle F1s, summer.)

Well, smaller because people seem to suggest it helps cut through snow better, not because it'll handle (corner carve) better. Check out what the tirerack has to say:

I'll probably be in NYC, so I figure with a boat like the S350, and NYC's refrigerator-sized potholes, I should get something with high sidewalls since sporty handling will not be a priority and not getting a blown tire every day will be...

Interesting...

I'd post your question on the Tire Rack forum too, for Luke. He is good at these things.

I've been a member for how long now and I just learn this now?

Thanks for the tip. Mods, forgive the impending cross-post.
