New Windshield

Came from the mall and what do I see, my windshield cracked all the way to the top. Anyone ever had a windsheild changed? Anything I should be aware of (windnoise)

My windshield cracked and my regular auto insurance covered the installation of a new one by my Mercedes dealer (I only had to pay my $100 deductable). (The insurance company complained a bit about the dealer's labor rate, but paid up anyway.) The new window and labor came to about $800, so I'm glad I made a claim.

That is really, really, really cheap.

My windshield has sandpits on it and I think $800 is worth it for a brandnew glass...

How long did they take?

make sure you get it done at the dealer, that way it will be MB glass, believe it or not I have seen a bunch of cars come through the shop that have this done at indy shops and they have wierd problems.

Just got my quote from the dealer and yap, $800. They have to order one so it will be 2 weeks before installation.

It took them 3 days to get the windshield in stock. Brought my car in at 8 am and picked it up same day at 5 pm. I had to leave some tape on the car around the windshield for 48 hours to allow it to set, but that was it.

FYI, my dealer is Mercedes of Oakland (California).

Mine is being replace by CSC (right next 2 Oak. dealer) .. I was referred there by my Oak. dealer tech .. having the bumper replaced, windhshield too .. they've ordered it from Oak MB .. $800 is about right, the gecco (Gieco) quotes up to 4 hrs labor to replace it ..

They're not supposed to let you leave until the windshield has set (48hrs) .. so kudos to you for getting it out! There are some liabilities involved .. you get in an accident and your windshield flies out ..yadda yadda .. I'm just hoping that this shop does good work on my broken baby!

I changed mine for 500 installed.. It is PPG brand windshield who makes a lot of glass for Diamler.. The only thing different about it is it does not have the MB logo which is not important to me.. As long as you get PPG you are good to go.. It is the same thing without the logo.

PPG also supplys MB with clear auto finishes etc.
