A Zaino Weekend

clay bar
Yeah, that makes sense, as your paint has not been over exposed to the elements. My '98 528i is also black, but has been outdoors quite a bit. I actually thought the paint was OK until I clay barred it, and I could not beleive the difference I felt just by running my hand over the area that was clayed versus the area that was not. The clayed area had a smooth, almost soft feel to it. I also did my black 2000 S500, but not quite as much difference there, just because the paint was in better condition.
For those the need it, it is a pretty easy process. You spray the area to be clayed with soapy water, then just rub the Ziano clay over the paint. You'll actually see and feel on the clay all the stuff it picks up. It does not "drag" because the soapy water provides lubrication. It probably takes about 30 minutes to do the whole car, and probably only needs to be done every few years. Zaino's website and these types of forums together have nearly endless information on this.

I really like those rims... I think I will pick them up for my self on my birthday...
What is the style/size... what kind of tires do you have? Do you think they will look good without the sports package?
By the way, your car looks really, really sexy. I've had the zaino polish before, but not the complete package... I just ordered all the stuff on your list.

In person the car looks stunning. My wife keeps commenting on the shine and how its looks better than when we first picked it up.
The rims are the stock AMG 18’ with Michelin PS2 245/45 front and 265/40 rear.
The car has the AMG 600hp/700tq performance package with AMG wheels, brakes, suspension and body (no AMG logos on the car except on rims).
Also, try to use micro fiber towels when removing wax and polishing the paint. The final step requires a good terry cloth towel (or two).

That car is beautiful!!. I have used Zaino and saw a tremendous difference also, but never clay barred. Seeing yours and rubbing the sandwich bag over my paint made me order the clay bar. Going to tackle it this weekend. Hopefully it will look even better.

The first time I clayed my car it was 10 years old or so. A 1994 Lexus LS400 that had around 200k miles on it.
Imagine my reaction.

It looks really CLEAN!
btw, I have some questions on when to use micro fibres cloths and when to use terry cloth or those polishing cloths. those terry cloths don't feel that fine and smooth, will it scratch the paint or wax? I am also confused when the direction tells me to use many different types of cloths but is there alternatives?

I have an 01 S class that is white..the car has swirls that can be seen with close inspection or if i go to a car show at night with the flourescent lights...I know that I need the Zanio clay bar, but I was going to get the PC (swirl remover) with Z-2 with the accelerator..do I then need to use Z-5 even though I will use the PC..also I have read in the detail forum that the PC is worthless if applied by hand..i was going to finish with the Z-8 spray..let me know if I need both the PC and The Z-5...thanks

I get great results with Z PC as the first product, but only when the paint is in good shape. If paint is in need of a buffing wheel, I will use Maguire’s Swirl Remover and then start my Z process. I did not use a wheel or buffer to get the current S600 results.
