2001 S600 Engine problems

I know this has been discussed in detail before, but i have not been able to find a solution to my problem.

The car in question is a 2001 V12 model with 64,000 km on the clock. It lives in Russia and therefore has to withstand a pretty harsh climate.

Recently the engine light to the left of the instrument cluster has started coming on intermittently. One day it will stay on, maybe for a week at a time, and one day it will turn off for a period of time. Recently the engine has started rumbling and shaking upon ignition, and it seems one or more of the cylinders could be misfiring.

The spark plugs have been changed recently to no avail.
I have read that the ignition coils could be the culprit, unfoprtuantely im not familiar with this part so could someone please explain to me where/what it is, so that i can pass on the info to my Service engineer.
