copper-looking mesh on windshield?

On my '06 S430 if you look at the windshield in the right light, you can see a trapazoid-shaped mesh embedded into the bottom of the windshield...just above the wiper blades on the passenger side. Does anyone know what this is for?

While we're at it, what's the little sensor on the hood for?...the one just below the wiper-fluid jet?

thanks-

It is..

the uncoated (for UV ray and so on..) area of the windshield. there are two more uncoated area right beside the room mirror. You could place a radar detector, or a highway tool collect device at the uncoated area. :-)

thanks for the response...that explains everything! i was having trouble getting my (windshield mounted) radar-detector to work! So i just got one that mounts under the hood.

speaking of the hood, do you know what the little bubble-like sensor is for that's on the hood just below the center washer fluid jet?

Thanks!
