Need help with winter tires for 06 S430 w/ Sport Package

Hi. New to the forum and hope someone can help me out... Just bought a new S430 with the sport package and am looking to purchase snow tires for this winter. Currently have 245/45-18s on the front, and 265/40-18s on the rear. I want to go to 225/55-17s all around, but every single aftermarket wheel dealer is telling me that because of the sport package nothing but 18s will fit on the car due to larger calipers. I checked with my local dealer and confirmed that all the brake parts are the same on all 2006 S430... with and without sport packages. Does anyone have any info on this? PLEASE HELP!!! Thanks!

I can't help you on the size issue, but I strongly recommend you post this question in The Tire Rack forum here. Luke will give you a good answer and some good suggestions for tires that will work on your car. He helped me a year ago, and here is what I run now--and couldn't be happier:

225/60QR-16 Michelin X-Ice for winter (OEMs were 16") He specifically told me to get the X-Ice for my car because the ESP system didn't like the Bridgestone Blizzaks, another very highly rated winter tire. Size for yours I don't know.

For summer I run...
18x8.5 AMG Double Spoke Bright Sil
18x9 AMG Double Spoke Bright Sil
245/45WR-18 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 XL
275/40YR-18 Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3
