S430 Buying Help!!!!!!

Hi All!
I have been mad enough to purchase a replacement for my 1997 Mercedes E280 on ebay!!!!!!!!!!
My own car after 5 years big mileage has never let me down, however so called Mercedes quality on the bodywork is questionable, I cringe at spending even more money again on respraying the rusting wheel arches (perhaps another thread for messages!)
Anyway my "new" car is a 2001 S class 430L with a full history and alas 133K on the clock. To collect this involves a 1.5 hour plane flight and a near 2 day journey home including ferry crossing! Its going to cost a wee bit less than my local Merc dealer who are looking near 16k sterling pounds for a similar!!!--I love a bargain!!
Before my eyes glaze over checking out the sat nav and massage seats and I end up buying a lemon- have u guys out there got any sensible things for me to look out for??? I do know the instrument panel illumination gives trouble, of course I know to look for overheating, bad coolant, bad oil etc
Any other tips???? Will keep everyone posted with pics etc

Airmatic...the air suspension system. Ask questions of the buyer and watch their eyes. Check for obvious signs of air leaks around the hoses at the top of the front struts (cracks, splits, etc.) If the early W220 has a weak spot it's Airmatic...but when it's good the ride is as smooth as any you ever had!
Good Luck!
