My 2000 S430, which has been in possession for about 3 months now, a few days ago showed "check lamp" malfunction on the dash. I thought a front lamp died on me, but both front lamps are fine upon inspection. The message went away the same day, and haven't re-surfaced yet.

Is that part of the electrical issues that I'm reading and from hearsay that plagues this 2000 model?

So do I. It comes up periodically. Most recently a message came up saying a alternate lamp was being used. It stopped after I took it through the car wash.

You might want to check all connection between bulb/connector. One of them might get loose sometime, not enough to disconnect power, but to raise the resistant and trigger lamp msg.
