Hello forum members interested in key-issues

Changed the batteries of the new key and nothing changed. It is working only on a very close distance. So nothing remote about it.

Could it be the frequencies they operate on are just slightly different?

Hi Kor
Checked my key today after reading a thread on a different forum. It appears that the keys have 2 systems, a RF system and a IF system. The RF system works at a distance using radio waves and the IF system works closeup using infer red, directed at the receivers in the door handles. If your doors open only closeup but not at a distance try placing your finger over the end of the key and try to open the doors again, they should stay locked if the RF is not working correctly. This is the problem I am having and I know it must be the new key and not the car receiver as my old key works fine at a distance of at least 50 meters. Hopefully MBUK can help resolve this problem.

the IR handles only the window/roof convenience open/close. the RF handles
the door and trunk locks. I dont know why the range of kor's remote is so
short. how short? you can try the ghetto trick of placing the business end
of the key against the bottom of your jaw...which will act as a radiator (that's
more of a party trick), but you shouldn't have to.

I've tried looking for receiving antenna but not had much luck. i wish I had the
time to dissect the guts of the remote, but i don't, nor should we have to.

I just got my key from FedEx. I noticed that I got 2 day shipping, but paid for regular ground shipping. I also got an email today with the tracking number, but it arrived today anyways. Either way, the key looks great.

I just went down to my local dealership in Miami and ordered it but they needed to have me there in person to order it with ID and reg. I got the key for $79ish dollars and $15 of that was the shipping charge.

well had my key checked by my local dealer and they say the key is faulty. With the original key I could even open the doors/trunk without taking the key out of my pocket but not with the new one. The local dealer says the RF is not working and so I have e-mailed Jamie for return instructions, but not yet received a reply. Bet this is the problem with yours Kor

lloyd, It seems to be a problem relating to being out of the U.S.or a programming error. I do not think that it is a coincidence that lloyd and kor are the only two who are having issues and happen to both be overseas. There is a ton of C-Class and S-Class cars in the states that have had zero issues ?? It just makes sense that the fact you are out of the country that there is a conflict with the programming or something of that nature. Get a second opinion from another dealer and see if they can re-program it for you perhaps, Best of luck.

In the US the key uses 315Mhz while everywhere else is 433Mhz used.
So a US key would never work with a non US version of the car.

Cheers, Frank

Thanks Frank S500. That answers why are keys don't seem to work correctly. I don't suppose you know if the U.S. keys we have can be reprogramed to use 433 Mhz by are local MB dealer, or are they permenantly set to the 315 frequency

I asked this question many times of the vendor. The only reply was that Keyless-Go was not available in the new style yet and the KG keys are more expensive. I asked for a price....no reply...sort of like speaking to a stone.

No they cant. And if programmed for your car they are ready for disposal. (or as spare cover)

Hello everyone,

Can any of members who got the new key demonstrate how it looks and works.

If anyone can make a Video of the old and new key starting the car and the way the new key looks in the starter would be great and much appreciated. Youtube is the upload source. Thanks in advance.

Hi guys,

I have found this site excellent.
I've fixed my blower and got two new style keys.

RE: Keys
I live in Dublin and order them on Friday and got delivery yesterday - fab service.
But the RF funtion does not work.
I have read the post regarding:-
"In the US the key uses 315Mhz while everywhere else is 433Mhz used.
So a US key would never work with a non US version of the car."
***Shame***
