Looking for a black grill to replace my stock 2000 S500. All I have seen is for the 03 and newer. Will another model of Benz interchange?

My car is currently at the body shop getting painted and I was going to have them spray it for $80 but they decided not to do it because they said it would look like dog**** because the paint would start flaking. That was even using an adhesion substance before spraying the grill. I think they just didn't want to warranty the paint job.
