A/C issue

If anyone could help me I would appreciate it. My a/c is not blowing cold and I would like to find out if it is a sensor or the actual compressor. I have tried listening to see if the compressor goes on or not, but I can't hear it. I know there is a way to diagnose the system. At least there was on my W140. Anyone know how to do it on the W220? I don't want to be in a position where my mechanic tells me that I need a new compressor and all I really need is a sensor.

Thanks for the feedback.
