Car uneven level (back)
Wait.. how the hell do I post pictures here?!
I suggest having a qualified mechanic look at it.

A. the height of the shock, and
B. the rust warranty on your car.
Screw heads, clips, pins, etc... are not rustproof therefore are not covered under any rust or corrosion warranty. A car maker would be insane to make such a warranty. as you would be equally mentally challenged to make such a claim ( no Offense ). Inner fender rust, doors, paint bubbling etc, are items that the corrosion protection warranty covers.
Judging by the pics you posted, the "rusted" pic actually sits lower in the perch than the other which would indicate that that side is in fact higher than the non rusted side. So.. that being said, I think you are on the wrong track with this rust thing.
BTW. I have the exact same issue with my car and I am investigating alternatives as we speak. I had it in the shop last week but I had so many things taken care of, my SA forget to add that to the list of things to look at.
Someone once posted that they had their shock replaced and it cured the height issue. However my SA said that he thinks the car can be recalibrated via STAR so he doesn't think I need a new shock. We have not had a chance to come to a final conclusion because of my schedule lately, and I haven't been driving the car> As soon as I get something for you I will either PM you the results or post it here so you can have an idea of where else to look.
Hopefully next week we'll have a look.
I would rule out the rusty strut concept. the support for you car happens on the inside of the strut anywayz not the outside.
