Brakes Are Grinding When Pressed!!

Can somebody please help me figure out what is wrong with my car? you know the sound the brakes make when the abs kicks in after you brake real hard or when you brake on ice or something? It sounds like that everytime i break!!! what could be the problem?

P.s. I replaced the brake pads and all and it did not seem to work or help it at all.

This type of issue could be a couple of reasons. You say you replaced the pad, did you checkk the rotors to ensure they are not warped? Did you clean the callipers before installing the new pads? Did you use an anti squeek gel? What type of pads did you use? Metalic pads are very aggresive than semi metalic pads. Ceramic pads are less aggresive. If non of these apply to you you need to get your system checked.

front wheel fitting faulty

Hi,

I had a similar sound when breaking on my 2000/S500/100kmiles. The reason was that the cone on the top alloy lever which holds the front wheel had become loose. (quite dangerous, as the wheel can come off).

Change the lever (around 100$ + 1 h work) and everything is fine.

Seems to be just another built-in quality issue. I'd bet that a lot of people with W220s and > 100kmiles will have the same issue. It took my mechanic quite some time to find the reason.

... hope it helps ...

Greetings from Switzerland,
Christian
