That feature became available on the DVD based nav systems. Your CD based system won't do it.
My system has the feature, but I don't find it as useful as the regular 2-D view, which I use so that the car's direction is always up onscreen, and the map rotates; that way, turns and directions in real life are in the same relationship as shown on the map. Your nav display will do that.

Newly acquired car, no COMAND manual? Rather than look it up for you (I don't recall the setting options on the COMAND 2.5 - haven't had one for 2 years) I'm going to give you a link so that you can download the manual itself. It's in the Navigation section. I do recall that it was a very simple procedure. Having and reading the manual will save you all kinds of headaches.
See http://home.earthlink.net/~phdwebsite/comand_manual.htm and go to "Selecting Map Orientation."

Heading-up is only possible on COMAND 2.5 if you're under route guidance. It's set with the INFO menu.
The DVD COMAND has heading-up in map (as opposed to guidance) mode, one of the many, many improvements over the CD system.
