going to try it!

benznodubz, or anybody else,

do you have any tips to share with me as far as painting the grill?

i going to try to do it myself as no bodyshop wants to. their concern is the paint not being able to stick to the chrome and flaking once the grill starts taking rock chips.

my plan is to scuff the chrome, then apply primer in a can and then paint for a non-matte look.

what do you think? what's good for scuffing? is a steel wool good enough?
is the surround easily separated from the slats?

i've never painted anything that belongs on a car before so any advice is appreciated. thanks.

you did a great job on yours!

Thanks KSC,

I bought a matte black aftermarket grille on ebay (plastic so it is easy to paint) Then at pep boys I bought, 1 can of ahesion promoter and 2 cans of dupli color Dark Shadow Grey paint and Apllied about 5 coats of paint and still have about a 1/4 can for touch up down the road. It was very easy.. I would keep the OEM chrome grille you have and buy and paint the plastic one due to the paint issues with the chrome one. The plastic takes paint much better.

benznodubs, thanks for the tips.

problem is, i already bought a grill just for painting. i saw that aftermarket one but then i found a used OE grill and bought that instead.

i see your point about paint adhering to plastic better than chrome, and the ebay one is probably better suited for painting.

i'll have to take my chances with the one i have.

Lowering 04 S430

benznodubz,

The profile of your ride is nice. Hey what size tires and wheels are you sittin' on? I have a 04 S430, sittin' on 19s (245/40ZR-19 tires) and I wanted to get it lowered. My concern is how will it effect the ride and will I have to roll the fender (something that I definitely don't want to do). What would be the most in expensive way to get the vehicle lowered? Star Diagnostic or Eibach lowering kit?
