Used S 430 vs New E

I found a used S430 for 59K w/ 15k miles and Starmark Certified
If I can get it down to 56 or 55K I would be really happy.
A new E320 runs about 53K but is so much smaller than an S. What do you think?

In my opinion you shoudl definitely take the S-class. S is in another segment and it is biffer. It has also more options.

Go for the S430.

But hey, this is only my opinion. If you want to have a completely new car, take the E. But S is always S.

Another thing to consider. MBZ is know giving dealers $4500 to move '02 S classes before the facelifted versions arrive end of next month. Some dealers are selling at $4500 BELOW invoice to clear 'em out . That means a base new 2002 S430 is at $62K. It gets better : dealer still gets a 5% holdback when car sells ( another $3500 you can bargain against ). Bottom line : walk into a MBZ if you are a SERIOUS buyer and offer $60K for base car plus dealer invoice cost on factory added options . Tell them you know about the $4500 and the 5% holdback and say you will shop that offer at all the local dealers . Show them the money and I bet this weekend they will take it.
You could buy a well optioned 2002 S430 for less than a well optioned 2003 E500 .
Remember, most people ( meaning those who don't read this board ) think any new S class is an almost $100K car , while they think of an E Class as a $50 K car !

I know that they will give you the whole rebate of $4500.00 maybe even $5000.00 but thats it....the reason is simple...at that rebate, they will move because no one will buy 2nd hand 2002s.

But the 2003 has too many changes, the whole car is different...every angle has a difference.

Nah, big differences are the AMG and V12 models . Base models get tweaked front (nicer)/rear(uglier) light clusters/ redesigned but still illogically lined up " bunch-a- buttons " center dash , and some passive safety updates that help the hopelessly clueless distracted driver - which WE aren't 'cause we post here, right ?
Also here in Silicon Valley, where 1000s are being layed off regularly , I think some dealers are hungry enough to take my suggested offer. What have you got to lose ? The serious buyer is in the drivers seat at this time in the economy.
Someone was selling his $125K 2001 Porsche Twin Turbo and a dealer offered $84K as "generous "- whoaa nelly !
