2004 s430 questions

hi guys,

just joined this forum and have been reading through some of the posts. i just picked up a 2004 s430 to replace my 2001 slk320. the s430 is sweet but i sometime miss my little slk, especially when i am parking! a few questions if you guys can help:

1. the paperwork on the new car says "s430 special edition". how can i find out what features this has over the regular 2004 s430?

2. i set it so that when i turn the car off, it both lifts the steering wheel and moves the seat back. this worked fine the first few days, but now does not. i have checked the setting a few times and it is still set. also the seat moves back if i manually do it.

thanks,

vanessa

Congratulations on your new S-Class.

If you haven't had the chance to go through the owner's manual yet, you'll see (when you do) that that if you place the seat far enough back for the system to assume easy exit/entry can be done from current position, it will not move further back. It only moves back if your driving position is fairly far forward.

However, your steering wheel should move up, regardless of whether the seat moves back. If it doesn't, here's a handy-dandy reference to reset all kinds of things that may occasionally need it - including the steering wheel height adjustment: http://www.benzworld.org/forums/show...30#post2216730. However, be sure you observe the caution - before you try the reset procedure on steering height, be sure that it will raise manually. If not, don't use the procedure. Take it to the dealer.

As to the "Special Edition" designation - your dealer should be able to provide you with a copy of the window sticker, listing options. On initial purchase, some dealers would place this in the binder for your owner's manual - it may still be there. You can compare this to the standard version on the MBUSA website, checking the model overview (I find it easiest to get there using the Site Map; use the section referencing production year, not current models).

thanks skylaw for the info. you resolved the seat problem. for the second issue i bought it from a third party who had lost most of the original paperwork, the spare keys and the manual!

Go to www.mbusa.com and register as an owner (Owners online). You can download the manual.

Whoover is correct about the manuals (owners and maintenance); you can also download the COMAND manual, which you will find extraordinarily helpful, at Paul Dick's site, http://home.earthlink.net/~phdwebsit...nd_manual.htm; and the voice control manual at http://home.earthlink.net/~phdwebsite/vcm.htm.

Your dealer can probably get you a list of option codes from the VIN; and may be able to translate the codes for you from numbers to actual options. You can then compare that list to the standard model in the overview mentioned before. My bet is that there was special pricing on certain packages for your car.
