How to replace Serpentine drive belt.
Hi,
Anyone just guide me how to replace serpentine drive belt for 2000 S500. My belt is old and it is still original for 70k miles. I would appreciate if the photos are available too. I heard the fan and shroud have to remove too.
Thanks.

I dont have pictures but I can explain it easily over here. You either have an updated tensioner or the old style tensioner. My guess is old style tensioner since you havent had the belt replaced yet. Ill give you both, though.
You DO NOT need to remove the fan
Old style: You need a ratchet/breaker bar and an external torx socket (E10)
Put your ratchet in the off position (lever pointing to the right), push it down, pull off the belt. Done. Remember how it came off though, or it could be tricky for a novice to figure out the routing.
Updated: Same ratchet, on loosen. You'll need a 17mm socket this time. Same principle. You know which you have by looking at the tensioner. If there is an external torx coming out of the center, then its the old style. Updated will have a 17mm hex, just below the belt on the left hand side. A 1 inch extension helps here.

I believe you are talking about the timing chains. He is referring to the serpentine belt, which cracks, and does need to be replaced.

Thank you both of you for responding my question. I will do this on next weekend. I have a torx head on the tensioner.
